Respiration Flashcards
Where does respiration happen and what is it?
Happens in every cell of every body
It is the prices of transferring energy from the breakdown of organic compounds . Transferred by heat
What are the two types of respiration?
Aerobic and anaerobic
What is the energy is respiration used for?
Metabolic processes
Contracting muscles
Maintaining a body temperature
What is the equation for respiration?
Glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water
Opposite of photosynthesis.
C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O
What is anaerobic respiration?
Doesn’t use oxygen and is when your heart can’t supply enough oxygen to the muscles to do aerobic respiration.
Transfers much less energy and is less efficient
Glucose is transferred into Lactic acid
What is anaerobic respiration in plants?
Plants produce ethanol and carbon dioxide instead of lactic acid
Glucose -> ethanol + carbon dioxide
