Circulatory System - The Heart Flashcards
What circulatory system do mammals have?
Double , this means that the oxygenated blood goes one way and the deoxygenated blood goes another in a system.
How many chambers and blood vessels does the heart have?
4 chambers
And 4 vessels
What does the right atrium do?
Receives the deoxygenated blood from the body
From the vena cava
What does the left ventricle do?
Deoxygenated blood moves through which is then passed to the lungs
Using the pulmonary artery
What does the left atrium do?
Received oxygenated blood from the lungs
Using the pulmonary vein
What does the left ventricle?
Oxygenated blood moves through the left ventricle which is pumped around the whole body
Using the aorta
Why is the left side thicker then the right side?
As it has to pump it around the whole body so it needs more muscle
How do you calculate cardiac output ?
Cardiac output: heart rate x stroke volume
Cardiac output - cm^3 min^-1
Stroke volume - cm^3
Heart rate - bpm
