Q

name two instances where alchahol fermentation (a type of anaerobic respiration)

A

break making - yeast is used in bread making but the only fermentation product needed is carbon dioxide.
the yeast respires anaerobically using sugar in the dough and the Co2 bubbles make the bread rise, lastly the alchahol produced evaporates

-wine making - yeast is naturally found in grapes. Grapes are crushed and the extracted juice contains sugar and yeast which ferment and turn into alcohol. The alcohol eventually kills the yeast and the wine is filtered. 🍷🍾

Q

when does lactic acid fermentation occur?

A

when exercising, your body might not be able to supply cells with oxygen quick enough, so they respire anaerobically. During this process, they make lactate instead of alcohol like yeast.

Q

what is oxygen deficit and what is oxygen dept

A

oxygen deficit is the volume difference between an ideal and real oxygen uptake
oxygen debt is the extra volume that is needed to restore all energetic systems

Q

how is yogurt produced

A

milk is from animals, and is pasteurised to kill bacteria. The milk is cooled and lactic acid bacteria is added which turn the sugars in the milk into lactic acid, which coagulates the protein found in milk. This makes it a thick consistency
