Respiration Flashcards
Where does respiration of all the cell happens?
Mitrochondria
What is the word equation for Photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water —-> glucose + oxygen
What is the chemical equation for Photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2
Aerobic respiration
- with oxygen
- happens all the time
- Glucose + oxygen —-> carbon dioxide +water
- releases lots of energy
Anarobic respiration - muscle cells
- Without oxygen
- Glucose —-> lactic acid ( + some energy)
Anaerobic respiration - yeast/ plants
- without oxygen
- glucose —-> ethanol + carbon dioxide (+ energy)
What can you use to test for carbon dioxide?
- bubbled through limewater then it turns from clear to cloudy/milky in colour
What is the difference between anaerobic and aerobic respiration?
Anerobic - without oxygen
- Less ATP
Aerobic - With oxygen
- more ATP
What indicator do you use to show the amount of carbon dioxide?
- Hydrogen carbonate indicator
What would the yellow colour indicate?
- Respiration has occured —> increased Co2
What would the red colour indicate?
- Atmosphere Co2
What would the purple colour indicate?
- Decreased Co2 —> Photosynthesis
Respiration
- Is a chemical reaction that happens in all living cells.
Give two examples Anaerobic exercise
-Sprinting, pull ups
Give two examples Aerobic exercise
- swimming, jogging
Invistagating respiration - germinating peas
- As the peas start to grow they respire releasing heat.
- This thermos flask is insulated, so heat is not transferred to the surroundings and we can measure the change in temperature.
Invetigating respiration - insects
- hydrogen carbonate indicator -
red and turns yellow when carbon dioxide concentration increases.
Investigating anaerobic respiration in yeast
bubbled through limewater -
will turn cloudy -
This shows CO2 has been produced
