Respiration Flashcards
The three stages of respiration are
Glycolysis, Citric Acid Cycle and Electron Transport Chain
The conversion of glucose to pyruvate is
Glycolysis
Glycolysis takes place in the
Cytoplasm
ADP and Pi join together to make
ATP
ATP is used up during the
Energy Investment Phase
ATP is produced during the
Energy Pay off Stage
The acetyl group combines with oxaloacetate to form
citrate
The Citric Acid Cycle takes place in the
Matrix of the Mitochondria
The enzyme that removes Hydrogen is called
Dehydrogenase
Hydrogen is passed to NAD to form
NADH
The Electron Transport Chain occurs in the
inner membrane of mitochondria
Hydrogen ions and electrons are passed to the Electron transport chain from
NADH
The energy from the electrons allows
Hydrogen ions to be pumped across the membrane
The flow of ions back through the membrane activated the enzyme
ATP synthase
ATP synthase results in the production of
ATP
