trachea - deviated?
apex beat - 5th intercostal space mid clavic line
chest expansion (exhale fully before)
tactile vocal fremitus ‘99’ (using ulnar border of hand 3 front 3 back)
What should you percuss during a respiratory exam?
apices of lung + 3 areas of L + R lung incl R mid lobe front and back
Where should you auscultate during a respiratory exam?
start at apices move side to side with open mouth breathing front and back
vocal resonance ‘99’ (3 front 3. back)
whispering pectoriloquy if consilidated
What extra things should you do in a respiratory exam?
palpate cervical lymph nodes
ankle oedema
How would you finish a respiratory exam?
check sputum pot
assess peak flow + spirometry
bp
oxygen sats
