scars, swelling, hyperextension, bakers cyst, valgus, varus wasting
gait
what would you palpate in a knee exam
temperature
quads tendon
borders of patella
back of knee
patella tap - one hand compress suprapatellar pouch then tap with other hand
bulge test - one hand sweep medially up knee then other hand comes down laterally
palpate knee at 90 degrees
what would you move in a knee exam
actively flex and extend knee
passively flex and extend knee whilst feeling for crepitus
what is a posterior sag test
knee flexed to 90 + inspect from side if there is a sag of upper tibia - suggests pcl damage
what is an anterior draw test
knee flexed 90 + fingers behind knee and thumbs on tibial tuberosity pull forwards - lots of movement = acl damage
what are the medial and lateral collateral ligament test
flex knee to 20 grab patients heel with one hand while exerting pressure against inside of knee (lateral) apply medial pressure on outside of knee (medial)
what would you offer to complete knee exam
examine hip and ankle
examine neurovascular status
