resp 4 Flashcards
what controls Bronchoconstriction/dilation?
Paracrine control, CO2 being the major one, high levels causes dialation, low levels causes constriction
-histamine released from mast cells
-parasympathetic nerves innervate bronchiole smooth muscle and activate PLC-IP3(constrictions)
-Circulating epinephrine binding B2 adrenergic receptors(dialation)
in a healthy person, where is 90% of arway resistance and why?
trachea and bronchi because they have the smalledst additive cross sectional area
what is the equation for Alveolar ventilation?
ventilation rate x (tidal volume - deadspace) = alveolar ventilation
what is the equation for pulmonary ventilation?
ToT pulmonary ventilation = ventilation rate x tidal volume
