renal 1 Flashcards
what do proprioreceptors do
provide a feedforward signal that the body is going to need more O2 since activity is starting
what are the 6 functions of the kidneys?
*most important: homeostasis of water and ion content of the blood
1 regulation of extracellualr fluid volume and blood pressure
2 regulation of osmolarity
3 iron balance: Na+, K+, Ca2
4 regulation of pH
5 excretion of waste (metabolic & xenobiotics
6 produces hormones: erythropoietin, renin
Ureter
a tube that moves substances that dont get absorbed by the kindeys
where are the kidneys located?
just outside the peratineal cavity
wedged agaist back muscles and peratinium goes over top it (they dorsal mf)
what is a nephron
functional unit of the kidney
80% cortical nephrons
and 20% juxtamedullary nephrons
name the vascular componenets
renal artery –> afferent arterioles –> glomerulus (capillaries) –> efferent arterioles –> peritubular capillaries –> renal vein
name the tubular components
bowmans capsul > proximal tubule > descending loop of henle > distal tubule > collecting duct
what are the 4 processes of the kidneys
filter
reabsorb
secrete
excrete
