China’s One Child Policy and why was it introduced

1980-2016

A

Fined for extra children and land maybe confiscated
Women forced in to abortion
Benefits for one child: free water, bonus points on entrance exams, tax breaks
Introduced because a famine killed 30 million in 1962

After the famine, Chairman Mao encouraged families to grow for 20 years resulting in population growth from 50 to 80 million.
One Child Policy was implemented from 1980-2016
