Define the word Aid
Aid refers to foreign governments lending or donating money or assets to LEDCs to improve their quality of life after a humanitarian crisis or a financial, social, political crisis
How much aid money was Haiti pledged?
Haiti was pledged in the region of 13 billion USD but only received 6.4 billion dollars. Some countries did not honour their pledges (this could be due to them only pledging for publicity and not following though)
How did the earthquake effect Haiti
Haiti was already a poor country, having spent over 125 years paying back a 150 million francs in compensation to France for its loss of its colony and slaves. What was already an impoverished country was unable to rebuild itself without the help of humanitarian aid in the form of money from governments, charities and NGOs.Infrastructure, homes and port destroyed
What are NGOs
Non Governmental Organisations that operate independently of any government and whose purpose is to address and help public and social welfare. Examples are CARE/ Medicins Sans Frontiers /Oxfam
Did UK reduce its Foreign Aid ?
Yes. In November 2020, the UK government reduced aid from 0.7% to 0.5% of Gross National Income (GNI) as a temporary measure in response to Covid-19

Goal: to bring jobs and industry to the area by bringing in factories and employing habitants in the area to work in the clothing factories. Result:The farmers who were kicked off the land to build the park are still waiting to be compensated years later. The amount of people working in factories falls short of the predicted goal
