what is critical thinking?
the rational, skeptical and unbiased analyisis of facts and evidence to from a conclusion
A way of thinking that is self monitored, self directed and self corrected
what are two obstacles to critical thinking?
Egocentrism
inability to take perspective of another person
Sociocentric thinking
group egocentricity
what are the 5 types of cognitive bias?
Confirmation bias - only listen to info that confirms existing beliefs
Hindsight Bias - tendency to see events as more predictable than they are
Anchoring bias - overly influenced by first piece of info
Misinformation effect - memories influenced by things that happened after event itself
Actor-Observer bias - attributing OUR actions to external influences and other peoples as internal ones
what is an echo chamber?
where a person only encounters information or opinions that reflect and reinforce their own
