Tell me about Housing:
-On campus housing is required and guaranteed freshman year; after that, it is neither guaranteed or required unless you are a member of the residential colleges which is a 2 year commitment.
What is HRL?
-Housing Residence Life; is able to accommodate most requests to stay on campus for a second year, however this fluctuates from year to year. Students have many opportunities to apply for housing on campus and can even be hired to work as a resident advisor, apply to a living learning community (must be accepted), apply to the housing lottery and place themselves on the waitlist.
-non of this is guaranteed, that is why we recommend students who don’t get on campus housing after applying to reach out to Virginia Tech off campus housing office and they can help you find housing.
How do students access buildings?
-Your Hokie P will act as your key. You will have swipe access into your building and only your building, it is personalized per person.
-To enter your room you will tap you hokie P to the keypad and enter a personalized pin to get into your room. Suites normally have two of these, one for the common area and one to your room specifically.
Tell me about Student leaders:
-SL’s are highly trained in their roles, 3 categories belonging, Well-being, and Experience VT.
-They are your first responders, help answer questions, hall bonding, help if you lock yourself out of your room, connect you to campus resources
- An SL will be in a community space form 7:30-11:00 each night
-split into 5 districts, each one has a counselor avaliable for walk-ins for 2pm-11pm monday-friday
Tell me about Laundry:
-available in every section
-Can pay using debit section of hokie P which is different than dining dollars
What are the four styles of living?
-Traditional: 2 roommates; hall-style bathroom
-Suite: 2-3 roommates and 6-8 suite mates, private bathroom and shared living room space
-Private Bath: 2 roommates share a bathroom (MOST RARE ON CAMPUS)
-Jack and Jill: 2 roommates share a bathroom with 2 suitemates (most commonly found in greek housing on oak lane but is found in payne and peddrew yates
Tell me about Bathroom cleaning:
-Traditional style bathrooms are cleaned twice a day by professional staff
-In suite style, private bath, and jack & jill cleaned by professional staff over breaks and long-lasted holidays; otherwise should be cleaned by residents.
Are there same sex dorms?
-Yes, there are 2 all-male and 2 all-female residents
-all others are co-ed separated by floor, wing, suite, or by room.
Tell me about Living Learning Programs:
-Must apply to be apart of the programs
-fill out application as part of the housing contract, can apply up to 3 options
-roommate choice must be in the same LLP as you
