  • there are restricted majors; in this situation a student must complete certain requirements to be accepted
  • there are non-restricted majors: in this situation students must get approval from the dean of the college
  • there are 3 common dates in which the major change process normally occurs
  • students will have a major-specific advisor available to them for assistance
  • by the end of sophomore year or when a student reaches 60 credits a final decision on major must be decided.

  • For fall of first year: done during summer orientation with advisor based off of IB and AP credits accepted
  • After that point, class sign up is done through Hokie Spa, online timetable of classes where you can choose time, professor, location, and class size

  • Can drop classes up to 6 weeks into the course

  • When choosing classes seniors get priority to classes, then juniors and so on
  • Honor students normally dont have issues because seniors aren’t normally taking the same classes as a freshman

  • newer classrooms have wider chairs and aisles, tv screens, and outlets at every seat along with audio/video closets

  • For the most part all academic buildings are on one side of campus, however there are some agriculture and life science buildings on the residential side of campus
  • mostly departmentalized so you shouldn’t have to walk all across campus to find classes or your professors offices

Tell me about the honors college:

A

-established in 2016
-application to the honors college is apart of normal application process
-factors used in Honors decision process include: high school GPA, SAT scores, and academic/extracurricular activities resume(its a holistic review process and they also note online)
-Must complete 30 credit Honors Diploma by graduation
-Purpose: Provide an extraordinary education for students of exceptional motivation and ability.
>we do this through: Sustained relationships with faculty. Opportunities for independent learning. Undergraduate research opportunities. Experiential learning opportunities.
