Sue Sharpe-interviewed girls in London in the 70s then the 90s and found that their aspirations changed from being a housewife/mother to having a career and financial inderpendence

Willis’ working class lads-observed a group of boys for 18 months in their school and then 6 months when they had started working to workout why “working class kids get working class jobs” he found that they were uninterested in school. It was overt observation.
covert observation
Nigel Fielding used covert observation to observe the National Front.
lab experiment
Milgram studied how far people would go in obeying an instruction if it involved harming another person. It was a covert study and involved one person electrically shocking another if they got a question wrong
field experiment
Rosenthal and Jacobson studies the effect of labelling within the classroom.They told the teacher that one class was more academically able then the other even though they were equal in achievement and observed how the teacher treated each class differently. The “high flyers” achieved higher than the “less able” group
field experiment
The Paddington Station experiment- Sissons investigated peoples perceptions on social class. An actor dressed as a businessman then a builder and asked people for directions and they found that people were more inclined to help the businessman

Curtiss investigated Genie who had suffered from severe deprivation of primary socialisation.
Ethnography
Mead studied the Tchambuli tribe and found that gender is a social construct and the gender roles within the tribe are opposite to western gender roles
longitudinal study
Farrington- The Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development studied 411 males from when they were 8 onwards to see how juvenile delinquency develops
