P value indicates a probability level…
- That is, what is the probability that a result is due to chance?
- Generally, psychologists accept p values less than 0.05
- p<0.05 means that there is less than a 5 in 100 chance of something occurring due to chance OR the change/ difference has more than a 95% chance of being due to the IV
- In this case the result is said to be statistically significant.

The probability of the change / difference occurring as a result of chance is too high.
