What are primary sources ?
Data collected by the researcher themselves
What are secondary sources?
Data that already exists and has been collected by someone else
What is quantitative data ?
Data represented in a numerical form
What is qualtitative data ?
Data in the form of tet, describing opinions or photos
What is a survey ?
A generalised term for a questionaire
What is reliability ?
The ability to repeat or replicate the research
What is a hypothesis ?
A statement to be tested
What is objectivity ?
Not being biased
What is bias ?
Being one sided
What is validity ?
How truethe data is relating to the research
What are ethical issues ?
Moral issues of right or wrong
What is rapport ?
The relationship between interviewer and interviewee
What are the 4 types of interviews ?
Structured
Semi-structured
Unstructured
Group
What is an overt observation ?
The group that you are observing know why you are there and what you are doing
What is an covert observation ?
When you are undercover and the group are not aware that you are observing them
What is a participant observation ?
You (the researcher) are actively involved in the groups activties aswell as observing the groups behaviours
What is a Non- participant observation ?
You (the researcher) watch and record what is happening but you are not involved in the groups activties
What ethics do you have to consider ?
- Consent
- Confidentiality
-Cause no harm
What is an advantage of secondary data ?
It is cheap and easy
What is a disadvantage of secondary data ?
It has not been created specifically for your research so may not answer all of your questions
What are examples of personal documents ?
Diaries, Letters, Suicide notes
What are examples of public documents ?
Ofsted reports, Birth certificate
What are historical documents ?
Novels,photos from the past
What are mass media documents ?
Adverts, New articles, Tv doccumentries
