Research Methods Flashcards
a detailed study of a subject, especially in order to discover information or reach an understanding
Independent Variables
Manipulated by the researcher or occurs naturally
Dependent Variables
The results (what is measured by the researcher)
Extraneous Variables
Any other variable that can affect the dependent or independents variables
Aim
A general statement of what the researcher intends to investigate (the purpose of the study)
Hypothesis
States the relationship between the variables being investigated
Alternative Hypothesis
States there is a relationship between variables
Null Hypothesis
States there is no relationship between variables
Operational Hypothesis
Clearly defines the variables in terms of how they will be measured
Directional Hypothesis
Predicts an effect will occur whether that effect will specifically increase or specifically decrease
Non-directional Hypothesis
Predicts a relationship between variables without specifying the direction of that relationship
Confederate
An actor who is apart of the experiment
