Rid (ebola):

  • infections and deaths
  • 3 questions: how much emphasis international community place on experimental interventions? / what are the ethical considerations? / how can interventions be widely available?
  • humanitarian duties of assistance and global justice
  • need to focus on strengthening health systems
  • when thousands people confronted with life threatening disease = ok to offer patients unproven interventions
  • affected countries want access
  • use of interventions need to be done according to ethical principle: 1. only given in trials 2 shouldn’t be given for compassionate use outside trials 3. ethics must be upheld
  • has to be randomised trials, fair selection and include local communities (collaboration).
