Required Practical - Investigation the effect of light differences is on Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the point of the experiment?
To find out the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis
Method:
- Place a piece of pondweed in a beaker and place a lamp a specific distance away.
- Record the number of bubbles produced in one minute.
- Repeat with the lamp at different distances.
What are the controlled variables?
Temperature, the piece of pondweed, and the concentration of carbon dioxide.
What is the independent variable?
light intensity
What is the dependent variable?
The number of bubbles produced in one minute
Why are results inaccurate?
- Because of the bubbles each count as ‘1’ despite being different sizes.
- It may be difficult to count small bubbles
Why should you leave the plant for a few minutes?
To let it adjust to the conditions - light/temperature
What are limiting factors from light?
The plant also needs enough CO2 and temperature.
How could you stop the lamp heating the beaker?
Place a glass block in front of it.
What hazards are there?
That water may hit the light bulb
