Oogenesis
egg production (ova)
Oogonia
egg stem cells
Oogonium
a egg stem cell
Primary oocyte
beginning follicle
Secondary oocyte
ova
Tiny polar bodies
become corpus luteum
3 accessory glands of male reproductive system
1 seminal vesicle
2 prostate
3 bulbourethral gland
what does the Seminal Vesicle aid the sperm in?
nutrition and mobility
What does the prostate aid the sperm in?
thins out sperm for movement and adds citric acid for energy
What does the bulbourethral Gland aid the sperm in?
Neutralizes acidic urethra and lubricates it
What is the scrotum?
Flap (sac) of skin that houses the testes
What does the scrotum do?
muscle maintains the temp of the testes at 3-5 degrees lower than body temp

Where is sperm formed?
by the seminiferous tubules in the testes
What does the epididymis do?
houses and transports for 20 days of maturation (6th month)
what does the ductus deferens do?
transports to ampilla to wait for ejaculation
how does the egg end up in the uterus? (path)
ova is released into fimbriae –> through the infundibulum –> carried to the uterus
how many follicles do females have at birth? How many of those will become eggs (ovulation)?
400,000 folicles
400 eggs
What is the uterus?
Hollow, muscular structure that receives and nourishes eggs.
What is the endometrium?
Mucosal layer
nourishes egg-growing-sloughing
