Reproductive system - Female Flashcards
Components of the ovaries?
- hilum
- cortex
- medulla
Components of uterus?
- fundus - cervix - body
What kind of epithelium does the endometrium of the uterine wall have?
Simple cuboidal epithelium
Parts of the uterine tube?
(When the fimbrae waft the egg into the tube it passes in this order) - infundibulum - ampulla - isthmus - intramural
The endometrium of the uterine wall consists of strata, name these as well as what else you find in the endometrium.
Stratum basalis Stratum functionalis (this is this stratum that changed in height) Spiral arteries Endometrial glands
What is the function of the endometrial glands?
To secrete glycogen rich substance to nourish embryo
What happens to the spiral arteries within endometrium during proliferation?
Spiral arteries heighten in size to the surface
What happens to the endometrial glands during the secretory phase?
Become cork-skrew shaped, fill with glycogen which is secreted after ovulation
Cervix has two components.. Name them and state the type of epithelium.
Endocervix - simple columnar epithelium Ectocervix - stratified squamous non-keratined
What is the transformation zone?
The point at which the endocervix and ectocervix meet, where dysplasia occurs, from simple columnar to stratified squamous non-keratinised
There are two types of simple cuboidal cella at epithelium.. Name them
Secretory - to nourish gamete Ciliated - alter in height during menstrual cycle
Pathology of the ovaries and uterine tubes you can get?
