Q

Difference between condyle and epicondyle?

A

Both are round projections on distal part of long bone, however; Epicondyle - serves as attachment point of ligaments and tendons Condyle - serves as point of articulation with bones

Q

What are the attachments for sartorius, innervation, and action of this muscle?

A

Attachments - ASIS of ilium to medial tibia Innervation; - femoral nerve Actions; (think sartor means tailor!) Flexion of the hip joint Lateral rotation of hip joint

Q

What are the attachments for rectus femoris? Innervation and actions

A

Remember that rectus femoris is one of the muscles of quadratus femoris, it is the only muscle that extends above hip joint so has an extra action. Attatchments; Superior part of acetabulum To patella by quadriceps tendon Innervation; Femoral nerve Actions; Like all other qaudriceps muscles, it extends the knee Flexes hip

Q

What are the features of adductor magnum and what is the importance of one the features?

A

Adductor magnus is the largest medial muscle. It has a hamstring part attatches to linea aspera) and an adductor part (attaches to adductor tubercle) The adductor part has a hiatus called “adductor hiatus” which; ** transmits femoral artery and vein from anterior compartment to the popliteal fossa **

Q

What is the function of piriformis?

A
  • extends hip joint - laterally rotates hip joint - laterally rotates
16
Q

Piriformis is attached to the inner aspect of sacrum but how does it leave the pelvis?

A
  • It leaves laterally through the greater sciatic foramen

20
Q

Why is the common perineal or fibular nerve prone to injury?

A

As it passes the fibula laterally, it is not protected..

21
Q

What does the common perineal or fibular nerve branch into, what do these nerves supply?

A
  1. Superificial branch of common fubular nerve - supplies lateral compartment of posterior leg
  2. deep branch of common fibular nerve - supplies anterior compartment of posterior leg
22
Q

What occurs if the common fibular nerve is damaged?

A

Foot drop
