Reproductive System Flashcards
What cells are found in the testes?
interstitial cells, spermatogonia, Sertoli cells, seminiferous tubules
How does the hypothalamus initiate sperm production?
gonadotropin hormone (GnRH) is released
What does GnRH tell the anterior pituitary to release?
follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
How does FSH play a role in sperm production?
tells Sertoli cells to release Androgen Binding Protein (ABP)
How does LH play a role in sperm production?
tells cells of Leydig to produce/release testosterone
What does androgen binding protein do?
keeps testosterone around
What are the three parts of a sperm cell?
head, midpiece, and tail
What is in the head of sperm?
DNA and acrosome
What is in the midpiece of sperm?
mitochondria that produces ATP so it can swim
