Reproductive Anatomy Flashcards
What ligament connects the uterus, Fallopian tubes and ovaries to the pelvic side wall?
Broad ligament —> also contains the broad ligament
What structure connects the ovaries to the lateral pelvic wall AND contains the ovarian vessels?
Suspensatory ligament of the ovaries
What is the homologous male structure in females: Glans penis
Glands clitoris
What ligament connects the Cervix to side wall of pelvis? What is contained in this structure?
Cardinal ligament
Contains —> uterine vessels
What structure connects the medial pole of ovary to the uterine horn? Aka-lateral uterus
Ovarian ligament
What structure connects the ovaries to the lateral pelvic wall? What structure is contained within?
Infundibulopelvic ligament
Contains —> ovarian vessels
What cell type is found in each of the following areas: Vagina
Stratified squamous epithelium, nonkeratinized
What cell type is found in each of the following areas: Ectocervix
Stratified squamous epithelium, nonkeratinized
What cell type is found in each of the following areas: Transformation Zone
Squamocolumnar junction (MC área for cervical cancer)
What cell type is found in each of the following areas: Endocervix
Simple columnar epithelium
What cell type is found in each of the following areas: Uterus
Simple columnar epithelium with long tubular glands in proliferation phase; coiled glands in secretory phase
What cell type is found in each of the following areas: Fallopian Tube
Simple columnar epithelium, ciliated
What cell type is found in each of the following areas: Ovary, outer surface
Simple cuboidal epithelium (germinal epithelium covering surface of ovary)
What is the pathway of sperm during ejaculation?
S-Semineferous rubles E-Epididymis V-Vas Deferens E-Ejaculatory ducts N-Nothing U-Urethra P-Penis
Describe the lesion that has occurred: patient presents with blood at urethral meatus, and he has a scrotal hematoma… he was involved in a perineal straddle injury. There is perforation of the spongy urethra - blood accumulates in the scrotum. If deep penile fascia (Buck fascia) is torn, urine escapes into peritoneal space.
Anterior urethral injury
Describe the lesion that has occurred: patient presents with blood at urethral meatus, and high riding prostate… he was involved in a automobile accident with a fracture to the pelvis. The intermediate portion of the urethra is torn- blood accumulates and urine has leaked into the retropublic space. There is injury to the membranous urethra.
Posterior urethral injury

What spinal nerves are involved in an antietectile state?
Pelvic splanchnic nerves (S2-S4)
NE—>increases [Ca+] intracellularly —> smooth muscle contraction—>vasoconstriction—> antierectile
What spinal nerves are involved in an Emission state?
Sympathetic NS - hypogastric nerve, T11-L2
What spinal nerves are involved in an Ejaculation?
Visceral and Somatic nerves -pudendal nerve
What stage is being described and what age is appropriate: Pubic hair appears (pubarche), testicular enlargement/breast bud forms.
Tanner Stage II - ~8-11.5 years
What stage is being described and what age is appropriate: no sexual hair. Flat appearing chest with raised nipple.
Tanner Stage I: pre-pubertal
