Testicular self exam
Should be done in the shower ( warmth stimulate the testes)
Tested should not be the same size
Painless lump needs to be reported to PCP
Oral contraception
Decreases and suppresses production of breast milk
DO NOT USE FOR WHILE BREASTFEEDING
Internal radiation implant ( brachytherapy)
Pre-op
Prior to patient receiving implant, an enema is given so rectum is empty in order to facilitate placing the implant through the vagina and into the uterus. Bowel movement during the implantation (1-3day) is avoided to prevent dislodging the implant.
POST-OP
Patient will be on a strict bed rest on her back with HOB elevated not more than 20 degrees. Movement is restricted; a Foley catheter is inserted into bladder in order to prevent the implant from being dislodged by a full bladder or by voiding attempts; resulting in radiation burns from distended bladder
