Immune Flashcards
Macrophages
Key function is phagocytosis
T-helper cells ( or CD4+ cells)
Attacks and kills target cells
B- cells
Make antibodies
Immune system
Has five major types of cells :
Dendritic cells, B Lymphocytes, helper T lymphocytes or CD4+ cells, cytolytic T lymphocytes or CD8+ and macrophages
Eosinophils: Eat worms
Attack and destroys foreign particles that have been coated with antibodies of the immunoglobulin E . Their target is helminths ( worms)
Neutrophils
They phagocytize foreign particles such as bacteria.
Interferons
Produced by variety of cells and effective against a wide variety of viruses – works directly on the host
SLE
Decreased numbers of all cells
Rash on face
So to reduce fatigue try not to use hot water because it exacerbates the symptoms. Patient should not rest for long periods because it promotes joint stiffness.
CD4 cells vs Viral load
CD4 T cells counts rises in response to a decline Viral load. Viral load is the direct measure of the magnitude of HIV replication.
Histoplasmosis
Caused by inhalation of spores from bat or bird droppings. An opportunistic infections that affect the lungs - occurs with HIV patients
However Toxoplasmosis is caused by contamination from cat feces.
Kaposi’s sarcoma
Purplish lesion on skin , dyspnea if they occur in lungs, can altered bowel pattern either constipation or diarrhea. Diagnoses is confirmed by skin biopsy
Herpes simplex
Manifests as painful, vesicular lesions that rupture and cause ulcers on the tongue 👅, lips 👄, buccal mucosal and genitalia
IMMUNIZATION
Acquired immunity can occur by receiving an immunization that causes antibodies to a specific pathogen to form.
(Natural or innate immunity are from birth)
Acyclovir (Zovirax)
Take with food.
Treat herpes
Given 5times/day
