Reproduction Flashcards
Reproduction is?
Producing offspring
What are the two types of reproduction?
A-sexual
Sexual
Sexual reproduction involves a fusion (joining) of what?
Gametes
Who and what does sexual reproduction?
Most animals and plants reproduce sexually
Gametes or what?
Sex cells
Which two gamete cells in animals?
Egg cells and sperm cells
Which two gamete cells in plants?
Eggs and pollen
What do you gametes have?
The nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomes
What does the nucleus do
The nucleus contains genes (DNA) and controls the activities of the cell
What does the cytoplasm do
The cytoplasm is where chemical reactions occur
What does the cell membrane do?
The cell membrane controls substances passing in and out of the cell
What does the mitochondria do?
Mitochondria is where energy is released during respiration
What do the ribosomes do
The ribosomes is where protein is made
At fertilisation what joins together?
What do they do when they join?
A sperm cell and a egg cell join together.
This mixes the genes from the two parents, a mixture of genetic information from the two parents leading to variation in the offspring.
What happens in a sexual reproduction?
There is only one parent
No gametes are involved
There is no mixing of genes information
The offspring of clowns (genetically identical) of the parent
