What are the names of the 4 chambers in the heart?
Right atrium
Left atrium
Right ventricle
Left ventricle
What does a artery do?
Carries blood away from the heart. Has thick walls because the blood pressure is high.
What do capillaries do?
This is where substances are exchanged between the cells and the blood. Thin blood vessels.
What do veins do?
These carry blood back to the heart. They often have valves to prevent the back flow of blood.
Plasma
The liquid part of the blood. Transports substances such as Corbin dioxide and soluble food molecules(e.g amino acids).
Red blood cells
Contains haemoglobin which binds to oxygen to transport it from the lungs to the cells.
White blood cells
These defend against pathogens.
Platelets
Fragments of cells which clot at the sight of a wounds.
