Digestion Flashcards
A balanced diet consists of?
Protein Lipids(fats) Carbohydrates(starch and sugar) Vitamins Minerals Fibre
Protein, lipids and starch molecules are made up of?
What can the molecules not do?
Large food molecules that are too big to pass out of the digestive system into the bloodstream.
The molecules can not be diffused.
What are starch molecules digested into?
Glucose molecules
What are protein molecules digested into?
Amino acids
What are lipid (fat) molecules digested into?
Fatty acids
Glycerol
What enzyme speeds up the break down of starch?
Amylase
What enzyme speeds up the break down of protein?
Protease
What enzyme speeds up the break down of lipids?
Lipase
What does the mouth contain?
The salivary glands where amylase is made
What does the stomach do?
Produces the enzymes which speed up digestion
Contains hydrochloric acid
What does the small intestine do?
Where digestion is completed and the digested food diffuses into the bloodstream.
What does the large intestine do?
Where water is absorbed into the bloodstream. This leaves the feases which passes out via the anus.
