Reproduction Flashcards
Stamen
The Stamen is a male reproductive organ of a flower. It produces the pollen. The stamen has two parts: anther and stalk.
Anther
The part of a stamen that contains the pollen.
Pollen Tube cell
A hollow tube which develops from a pollen grain when deposited on the stigma of a flower. It penetrates the style and conveys the male gametes to the ovule.
Filamento
A string like thing that holds the pollen on the top of it
Carpel
The female reproductive organ of a flower, consisting of an ovary, a stigma, and usually a style. It may occur singly or as one of a group.
Style
It is a long, slender stalk that connects the stigma and the ovary. The stigma is at the top of the style and is a sticky platform where pollen is deposited.
Ovars
Inside the ovary is an ovule that, when fertilized, will develop into a seed.
Adolescence
The period following the onset of puberty during which a young person develops from a child into an adult.
Puberty
Puberty is the process of physical changes through which a child’s body matures into an adult body capable of sexual reproduction
Pituitary Gland
The pituitary gland is a tiny organ, the size of a pea, found at the base of the brain. It produces many hormones that travel throughout the body,
Hormones
A hormone is any member of a class of signaling molecules produced by glands in multicellular organisms
Oestrogen
Estrogen, or oestrogen, is the primary female sex hormone.
Menstruation
The process in a woman of discharging blood and other material from the lining of the uterus at intervals of about one lunar month from puberty until the menopause, except during pregnancy
Endometrium
The mucous membrane lining the uterus, which thickens during the menstrual cycle in preparation for possible implantation of an embryo.
Ovulation
Discharge of ova or ovules from the ovary.
Testosterone
A steroid hormone that stimulates development of male secondary sexual characteristics, produced mainly in the testes, but also in the ovaries and adrenal cortex.
Erection
An enlarged and rigid state of the penis, typically in sexual excitement.
Ejaculation
The action of ejecting semen from the body.
Wet Dream
An erotic dream that causes involuntary ejaculation of semen.
Fertelisation
The action or process of fertilizing an egg or a female animal or plant, involving the fusion of male and female gametes to form a zygote.
Pregnancy
The condition or period of being pregnant.
Sexual Intercouse
Sexual contact between individuals involving penetration, especially the insertion of a man’s erect penis into a woman’s vagina, typically culminating in orgasm and the ejaculation of semen.
Zygote
A diploid cell resulting from the fusion of two haploid gametes; a fertilized ovum.
Embryo
An unborn or unhatched offspring in the process of development, in particular a human offspring during the period from approximately the second to the eighth week after fertilization
Womb
The organ in the lower body of a woman or female mammal where offspring are conceived and in which they gestate before birth; the uterus.
Gestation
The process or period of developing inside the womb between conception and birth.
Conception
After Fertilization = when zygote is formed
Placenta
A flattened circular organ in the uterus of pregnant eutherian mammals, nourishing and maintaining the fetus through the umbilical cord.
