Reproduction Flashcards
What is sexual reproduction?
Union of male and female gamers through either external or internal fertilisation resulting with a zygote
What is internal reproduction?
Union of male and female gametes inside the body of the female
What are the advantages of internal fertilisation?
- fetus is protected from predation and disease
- increased likelihood of fertilisation
What is the disadvantages of internal fertilisation?
- energy and time inefficient
- change of transmitting diseases to parents through physical and sexual contact
What are the advantages of external fertilisation?
- energy and time efficient
- larger number of gamers are realised = more zygotes
Disadvantages of external fertilisation?
- increase chance of prediction and offspring
- brought and dry season tarnish the quality of the deposited gametes
Examples of internal fertilisation
Tortoise inserts tubular penis inside female aging to fertilise the eggs
Example of external fertilisation?
Female bony fish deposit unfertilised eggs while male bony fish simultaneously deposits sperm in hopes of fertilisation
What is asexual reproduction?
Method by which plants produce genetically identical offspring without seeds or fertilisation, often through structures like budding and runners
What is sexual reproduction in plants?
The process where two plant parents produce offspring through the fusion of male and female gametes, resulting in genetically diverse individuals
What are three asexual methods of reproduction?
- Budding
2.Tube - Sucker
What is budding?
When parent cell has protruding outgrowth (bus) which is a new plant, above the ground level
Example of a plant the reproduces through budding?
Prickly pear
What is tuber?
Underground stem with buds
Example of a plant that reproduces through tuber
Potatoes
