Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
Purpose of mitosis
A
Single cell Division which produces 2 genetically identical Daughter cells
2
Q
Process of mitosis
A
- Interphase
- Prophase
- Metaphase
- Anaphase e
- Telophase
- Cytokinesis
3
Q
Interphase
A
- DNA duplicates (2N -> 4n)
Everything duplicates
4
Q
Prophase
A
The chromatin condensed into visible chromosomes, each consisting of two sister cromatids.
The nuclear membrane begins to break down
The centrioles move to opposite ends and form spindle fibres
5
Q
Metaphase
A
- spindle fibres attach to the chromosomes
- spindle fibres align chromosomes along the middle
Metaphase (Middle)
6
Q
Anaphase
A
- Spindle fibres pull apart the chromosomes
- pull the single stranded chromosomes to opposite ends
Anaphase = Away
7
Q
Telophase
A
Chromosomes uncoil to form chromatin
- spindle fibres disappear
- nuclear membrane reforms
- cell pinches in the middle to seperate cytoplasm, forming cleavage
8
Q
Cytokinesis
A
Cell split to produce 2 genetically identical diploid daughter cells
