Reproduction Flashcards

Q

How do asexual animals reproduce?

A
  1. Cells divide to make identical copies of themselves through a process called mitosis.
  2. Offspring is a genetic clone of parent. They have the same number of chromosomes.

Q

What are pros and cons of asexual reproduction?

A

Pros:
1. Fast reproduction rate
2. No mate needed - saves energy
Cons:
1. No genetic variation = no adaptation
2. Disease risk
3. Only suitable to one habitat
