How does uremia cause pericarditis?

A

Patients with uremia develop a lot of fibrin –> causes pericarditis –> very sticky fibrin that accumulates between pericardium and surface of the heart –> then you hear a rub –> can only be seen upon autopsy or removal of some pericardium

How do we define chronic kidney disease?

A

Persistent reduction in GFR to less than 60 ml/min/1.73m^2

–> These patients also have a very high risk for CVD
