what is azotemia?
a biochemical abnormality that refers to elevated BUN and creatinine levels and decreased GFR; without any symptoms
what is uremia?
when azotemia leads to clinical signs and symptoms
what is uremic frost?
a cutaneous finding seen in patients with severe kidney disease –> if you see this you need to initiate dialysis
what is the difference between nephritic syndrome and nephrotic syndrome?
nehpritic: caused by inflammatory glomerular disease and is dominated by the acute onset of either grossly visible hematuria or microscopic hematuria with dysmorphic RBCs; nephrotic syndrome: also due to glomerular disease, is characterized by heavy proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, severe edema, hyperlipidemia, and lipiduria
