Renal cell carcinoma - its an adenocarcinoma.

Clear cell cancer - 80%
what does kidney cancer not respond to?
chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
what is the most common presentation of renal cancer?
Asymptomatic.
Triad: flank pain, Haematuria, mass in loin.
other: hypertension.
Which part of the kidneys is the cancer most likely to originate in?
The proximal tubule.
what are the risk factors?
Family history, smoking, end stage renal failure.
where is the most common sites of metastasis?
Bone, brain, lungs liver (spreads mostly through blood - very often invades into the IVC).
Treatment of kidney cancer?
Partial or radical nephrectomy (this includes adrenal gland, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels etc).
What are non-surgical treatments of kidney cancer?
Radiofrequency ablation.
