How is the kidney peritonised?
it is partially peritonised
Between what vertebral levels do the kidneys lie?
Which kidney lies slightly lower? Why?
T12-L3
Right kidney lies lower because of liver
What four layers surround the kidneys?
renal capsule, perirenal fat, renal fascia, pararenal fat
Where are the 3 ureter constrictions? What is the clinical significance of this?
1st - ureter passes over inferior renal pole
2nd- ureter passes over external iliac vessels
3rd- ureter traverses the bladder wall
In what order (anterior to posterior), do structures enter the kidney hilum?
Renal vein, renal artery then pelvis (VAP)
What are the renal arteries branches of?
abdominal aorta
What do the renal veins drain into?
IVC
What arteries does the renal artery split off into in the kidney?
segmental, interlobar, arcuate, interlobular
what do the interlobular arteries supply?
each nephron of the kidney
what is the lymphatic drainage of the kidneys?
lateral aortic lymph nodes
what is the nerve supply to the kidneys?
renal plexus…
sympathetic T10-L1
sensory afferent T11-L2
what is the uriniferous tubule?
nephron + collecting duct
What type of epithelium is seen in the proximal tubule?
cuboidal
what type of epithelium is seen in the collecting tubule?
cuboidal
