How do special trays improve impression accuracy?
- They cover all areas needed for denture
- Impression material is not too thick and uniform in thickness which reduces distortion
When constructing a denture, when would you make the denture in RCP/CR?
When there is not a lot of occluding posterior teeth getting a reproducible ICP is difficult therefore you construct the dentures in a retruded jaw position (RCP/CR)
Define path of insertion
Path followed by the denture from its initial contact until it is finally seated
What are the different kennedy classifications of dentures design?
Class I - Bilateral free ended partially edentulous
Class II - Unilateral free ended partially edentulous

- Transmit occlusal forces to the teeth along their long axes (axial loading)
- Maintain correct occlusal relationship of denture base to abutment teeth
- Prevent trauma to gingival margins
- Provide some horizontal stability
- Prevent ingress of food between abutment teeth and denture base
When constructing a denture, when would you make the denture in ICP?
When a patient has multiple teeth remaining you use their natural teeth as a guide for tooth position

What are the options you can give a patient when planning an extraction around a denture construction?
- Extract tooth, allow healing and make a new denture
- Make an immediate denture at XLA appointment
- Add tooth (that replaces extracted) to existing denture either immediately or 2/3 days after extraction
- Make a new partial denture with soon to be extracted tooth still there, then once patient is happy and used to denture, extract the tooth and add new tooth to denture.
