Remilitarisation of the Rhineland Flashcards
When did the Rhineland get remilitarised?
March 1936
What happened and what was the punishment?
German soldiers marched into the Rhineland going against the Treaty.
Afterwards Hitler promised not to go against the Treaty again.
The League only used Moral Condemnation.
Why was there no action took?
Britain and France were more worried about Mussolini in Abyssinia.
Britain thought that the Treaty was too harsh and Germany wasn’t doing anything wrong.
No body wanted war.
What were the consequences?
Hitler told the soldiers that if France’s army tried to stop them then they should turn back around because they were too weak to fight.
When no one tried to stop him it gave him confidence to over turn more of the Treaty.
