What is a denture re-line?
Adding new base material, to the fitting surface of an existing denture, in quantity sufficient to fill the space which exists between existing denture contour and altered tissue contour
What is a denture re-base?
Replacing entire denture base material of existing denture
Types of denture re-line?
Temporary
Soft
Permanent
Chairside or lab based
When is a temporary reline useful?
Give an example of a temporary reline material
Good for use after an immediate denture has been worn for a while and is grossly ill-fitting
Good after implant surgery has been done
Coe-comfort
What is a soft reline useful for?
Any issues?
Useful in those with parafunctional habits
- as causes atrophic ridges
Good in cancer / cleft patients as can act as obturator
Plasticiser in the soft lining leaches, causing discolouration
- deteriorate with time
- harbour microorganisms
Give some soft lining materials
Heat and self cured acrylics
Heat and self cured silicones.
Some can be done chairside others cannot
What is a permanent reline? When might it be useful?
Reclining of denture with usually hard acrylic
- useful in peripheral seal issues
- correction of errors following Master imps
- good for immediate or post immediate dentures
- prolong lifespan of old dentures patient likes
How would a denture rebase occur?
Loose fitting denture - teeth not worn and in good condition
- undercuts removed from existing denture
- wash impression is taken with closed mouth technique - use denture as tray
- this new impression is used to create new denture base
