A

Expectations must be managed as it is temporary prosthesis due to resorption

It is a guess at how healing will proceed

Poor adaptation to ridge post extraction

Ongoing maintenance needed
- relines to ensure retentive

Increased cost and visits

A

Any removable dental prosthesis fabricated for placement immediately following removal of natural teeth

When may an immediate denture be contra indicated?

A

ORN, MRONj

Large cysts / active pathology

Denture not required as no real loss of aesthetics or function

Major fractures in maxilla or mandible

Pre-chemo / radiotherapy

What instructions should be given when immediate denture is provided

A

Denture kept in for 24 hours
- Advise warm saline mouthrinse after 24 hours and patient to remove denture after mealtimes to rinse mouth and clean
- usual post op instructions

Review after 1-2 weeks and then a month
- consider relines
- replace at 6 months to 1 year

How can a one stage immediate denture be made? When is it often made?

A

To replace one / two anterior teeth e.g. trauma / abscess etc

Upper and lower imps with high quality interocclusal record
- shade
- prescription to lab including design and teeth to be extracted

  • extraction and insertion next visit
