Mecca is in Saudi Arabia, but regardless of its geographical location, the city occupies a central place in Islam, one of the major religions of the world. Understanding and respecting the reasons behind its significance can be an important lesson for us all.

The Greek god Zeus and the Roman god Jupiter were the supreme gods of their respective pantheons. The fact that they shared so many characteristics gives us a clue to the capacity of the Romans to conquer different cultures and then absorb their ideas.

IT can be argued that pantheism has had a significant impact on human culture and that it continues to influence our concept of divinity and nature today.

The fathers of western philosophy were Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Building on each other’s concepts and practices, they established philosophy as being fundamental to human society. The principles of empirical inquiry have gone on to be the foundation of politics, science, mathematics, and much more.
