Reliability and Validity Flashcards
Name the two types of reliability
Internal and external
what is internal reliability
the extent to which a measure is consistent to itself
what is external reliability
the extent to which the a measure varies from one use to another
what is retest reliability
most common way of testing reliability. This is just by doing the test again and aiming to repeat the results before
whats the difference between test-retest and retest reliability
test retest will redo the test at a different moment in time
what is inter-rater reliability
when you have ore observers and you hope they conclude the same thing
what is parallel-forms reliability
when you use two similar tests or measures in hope of reaching the same result
e.g. questionnaire and self report
what is internal consistency reliability
when you add two similar questions in order to get the same aim. If the same aim is achieved twice then reliability is high
what is internal validity
The degree to which the independent variable causes a change to the dependant variable in the study
what is external validity
The extent to which the results of a study can be generalized to other settings(ecological validity and historical validity)
