What is a civil partnership?
A
Recognised union of same sex with similar rights to marriage.

What are the different Christian views about civil partnerships?
A
- Anglicans and Catholics do not advocate this because sexual relations are for marriage with the main role being procreation.
- Anglican vicars can have civil partnerships but must remain celibate
- Anglicans say no services or blessings should be given to homosexual civil partnerships.
- Some Christians believe civil partnerships provide the same stability and companionship that heterosexual marriage gives.
- CP’s reflect the biblical value of equality, lifelong marriages and God’s desire to bless the faithful.

What are Christian attitudes to same-sex marriage?
A
- Legal in March 2014
- Anglicans and Catholics don’t carry this out, vicars cannot enter same-sex marriages
- Anglican members may have same-sex marriages without punishment from the Church. (Marriage should be man and woman, as its purpose is procreation)
- Catholics say it will have harmful effects on society as it undermines heterosexual marriages
- Episcopal church supports same sex marriage and voted for its change in the church laws in 2015.

When couples live together without being married.

What are different Christian views on pre-marital sex and cohabitation?
A
- Sex should only happen within marriage
- Pre-marital sex is wrong
- Some accept that a committed relationship that is not a marriage may have sex and be living together.
- C of E accepts cohabitation and pre-marital sex is step towards commitment to marriage
- Casual sex is wrong
- Adultery is sin
- Catholics say sex should only be for procreation

Define celibacy
A
- Abstaining from marriage and sexual relations.

Why would some people choose to stay celibate?
A
To focus on fully serving God, like Paul the apostle.

What does the Catholic church say about celibacy?
A
- Priests, monks and nuns should be celibate so their love is solely focused on God as opposed to their wife or children
- It is a blessing rather than a restriction so they can get closer to God.
