What is involved in congregational prayer and what are the different practices?
- Set responses such as ‘Amen’ or ‘Lord, hear our prayer’.
- Some congregations allow standing and praying out loud or silent times for reflection (God may speak to them in some manner)
- Set/Liturgical prayers - express confession and thankfulness.
What is extempore prayer?
- Informal, spontaneous prayer giving one freedom to relate with God in an individual way.
- intimate conversation with God.

- Jesus taught his followers how to pray.
- Christians must remember to:
Confess all sin
Thank God
Adore God and concern for others
Supplication
Define supplication
Asking God for his help in prayer. This may be for the person themselves or intercession for others.
What is the purpose of individual and private worship?
To ask for things that they have interest in, to thank God and to pray for others.

What is adoration?
Bible speaks of God being worthy of praise, so this prayer is adoring God for whom He is,
What is confession?
They will tell God everything wrong they have done or failed to do when they should’ve. They also consider what changes they will make and seek forgiveness.
What are intercessions?
Pray on behalf of others.
What is thanksgiving?
God has good plans for Christians, so even in times of difficulty they thank God.
What is grace?
- Thanking God before a meal
- Jesus thanked when he fed 5000 people
- Paul gave thanks to God before eating bread during the sea journey
What is praying in the spirit?
- Effectively Glossolalia (speaking in tongue)
- A prayer inspired by the Holy Spirit
- Can be done in private, out loud
- A form of charismatic worship
What is meditation?
- During Christian meditation a believer focuses on God in stillness.
- Time of contemplation, this is when God will reveal himself to a believer.
What are the spiritual impacts of pilgrimage?
- Experience brings them closer to God as there aren’t any distractions
- Physical challenges of a pilgrimage shows them that they need God
- Spiritual impact as you are in places where Jesus performed miracles
- Sense of awe and wonder or a fresh insight and revelation of God.
