Liturgical, non-liturgical and charismatic.
What is liturgical worship?

Which Christian denominations use liturgical worship?
Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican.
What is non-liturgical worship?
- A worship service with little pre-organised structure.
- E.g. a hymn can be read, or a sermon preached
Which Christian denominations most commonly use non-liturgical worship?
- Protestant, non-conformist churches (Baptist, Presbyterian)
What is an argument for non-liturgical worship?
- There is no set structure of repeating the same service, like in a liturgical service, as you repeat the same thing without considering meaning
- Non-liturgical worship allows you to pray for what you want and make it personally meaningful and bring you closer to God.
What is an argument for liturgical worship?
- Familiarity of the service allows you to reflect more deeply about the meaning and significance of your recitation.
In a non-liturgical service, what will the sermon be about?
- Understanding messages of the Bible, word of God related to daily life.
What is the purpose of Charismatic worship?
- To experience the same gifts of the Holy Spirit the apostles did on the day of Pentecost.
- Worshippers seek to be open to the Holy Spirit and be led by him during the service. At any moment someone could feel the need to say a special prayer or hymn pf praise.
What is involved in a Charismatic service?
- No set pattern
- Dancing, clapping and people raising their hands as part of worship.
What is recommended for a Christian to do during their individual worship?
- Bible study books suggest reading for a day and then studying explanations of the passage.
- Questions may be asked by the book in a group or alone to stimulate thinking of deeper meaning.
What is the significance of individual worship?
- Helps develop relationship with God
- Able to study Bible at own pace and time and to seek God’s specific guidance for their own lives.

- Washing with holy water over a persons head or immersing them.
- It symbolises purification and relief from sin.
What is Christening and which denominations perform it?
- RCC, Orthodox and Anglican
- Baptism of an infant so it receives God’s blessing and the baby’s parents makes a promise to raise it a Christian.
- God’s grace should be earned through faith rather than as a ritual.
What are non-conformist denomination’s views about baptism?
(Pentecostal or Baptist)
- Should be adult baptism as the person should make the conscious decision, so there is adult baptism not Christening.
What evidence do non-conformist denominations give about their view on baptism?
