- Also, in September 1625, a small number of English ships loaned to France were used by Richelieu to defeat a force of Huguenots. Embarrassed Charles as his attempt to recall the English ships were ignored by the French.

In February 1626, the ‘Treaty of Paris’ was signed which made peace between France and Spain and Buckingham, the scapegoat was furious. He attempted to effect the removal of Richelieu from power. He made contact with disaffected French nobles and planned an uprising supported by the Huguenots This mission needed to be financed, so Charles called February i 1626
