What are the 3 security levels associated with ISPS?
Level 1 - Normal operating level for ships
Level 2 - Enhanced security level
Level 3 - There is a specific threat to port or ship
What is the role of the ship security officer?
Complete an approved SO course. Undertake regular inspections. Implement security plan and propose changes. Report to CSO. Ensure record keeping is undertaken.
Who is ultimately responsible for the security of the vessel?
The Master who should liaise closely with the SSO
What is a declaration of security?
A contract between port and ship which sets out security duties of each party for the duration of the port of call.
What security certification must the ship hold and what is its validity?
An international ship security certificare which is valid for 5 years from issue.
What must every ship undergo in regards to security?
A ship security assessment to identify any potential weaknesses.
At what interval must internal security audits be undertaken?
Annually
What are the requirements regarding security drills on ship?
A security drill must take place every 3 months.
If following a crew change 25% of the crew have not participated in a drill in the last 3 months, a drill must take place within a week.
The ship must take part in a security exercise at least once every 12 months with no more than 18 months between exercises.
