regional gross anatomy lower limb innervation Flashcards
what nerve supplies the anterior compartment of the thigh?
the femoral nerve
what are the nerve roots of the femoral nerve?
L2-4
what is the innervation of iliacus?
the femoral nerve
what is the innervation of posts major?
anterior rami of L1-L3 spinal nerves
what is the innervation of pectineus?
the femoral nerve (l2,3)
occasionally there is a branch of obturator to pectineus as well but typically supplied by the femoral nerve
what is the innervation of sartorius?
the femoral nerve (l2,3)
what is the innervation of quadriceps muscles?
the femoral nerve (l2,3,4)
what is the terminal branch of the femoral nerve?
the saphenous nerve
explain the course of the saphenous nerve and its innervation
it travels down medially to pass on the medial side of the knee joint
gives cutaneous innervation to the skin overlying the anteromedial aspect of the knee and the leg and foot
what nerve innervates the medial compartment of the thigh?
the obturator nerve
what are the nerve roots of the obturator nerve?
L2,3,4
what is the innervation of gracilis?
the obturator nerve (l2,3)
what is the innervation of adductor longus?
L2,3,4
what is the innervation of adductor brevis?
L2,3,4
what is the innervation of adductor magnus?
L2,3,4
what is the innervation of obturator externus?
obturator nerve (L3,4)
explain the course of the obturator nerve
it runs along the lateral wall of the pelvis and then through the obturator canal to access the medial compartment of the thigh
it enters the medial compartment and divides into anterior and posterior branches
which 3 muscles does the anterior branch of the obturator nerve supply?
adductor longus
adductor brevis
gracilis
which 2 muscles does the posterior branch of the obturator nerve supply?
adductor magnus
obturator externus
explain the course of the saphenous nerve
travels w/in the adductor canal to reach the anteromedial aspect of the knee
it does not go through the adductor hiatus but instead travels distally and then passes between sartorius and gracilis to come into a more superficial position so it can supply the anteromedial aspect of the knee leg and foot
what forms the adductor hiatus
an opening in the adductor longus muscle
what nerve supplies gluteus maximus?
the inferior gluteal nerve (L5, S1, S2)
